Combating drug-addiction, which is one of the acutest problems facing our country, is a key priority for the Foundation of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia.
To this end, a group of scientists at the D. Uznadze Institute of Psychology carried out a scientific research of the problem: a research was conducted in 2005 to elicit pubic attitude to drug-addiction.
Based on the survey results, a strategy was elaborated for shaping anti-drug sentiment in the society and an antidrug center was established under the Foundation in 2007. The center seeks to explore and implement preventive measures against drug-addiction, elaborate psycho-diagnostic and psycho-correctional methods, hold consultations and trainings, train personnel in this field, publish textbooks and work with the media.
Within the same programme, narcological psycho-rehabilitation centres for drug-addicts were established in 2006 at the Tabor Mount Monastery of Transfiguration and the Martkopi All Saints Monastery in Tbilisi.
At these rehabilitation centres many individuals suffering from drug dependence undergo group and individual treatment through a special programme based on the so-called “12 Step” philosophy.
In 2007 the Foundation sponsored the development project of the “Tabor” center which is implemented by the “national network for prevention of violence”.
Under the sponsorship of the Foundation, in 2006-2007 the Ant-drug center held a contest of literary compositions and paintings for schoolchildren under the slogan “drug-addiction through the eyes of children”.
In August-September of 2007 a contest for the best anti-drug commercial clip was held.
