The Exaltation of the Crosses in Mtskheta

The Exaltation of the crosses is marked in Mtskheta today. The Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II will deliver the service at Svetitshkoveli Cathedral on this day.

After the service, three crosses will be taken to the temples of Mtskheta Jvari, Tkhoti and Ujarma. The celebration of this day has been restored in 2007. It is linked with Georgia’s conversion to Christianity by St. Nino and was declared as holy day at the time of King Mirian’s reign.
