The Orthodox Church celebrates the day of St. Andrew and Holy King Vakhtang Gorgasali

The Holy Orthodox Church marks the day the educator of Georgia, St. Andrew and the day of commemoration of St. King Vakhtang Gorgasali. In this regard, in all churches of Georgia will be held a festive liturgy.
The Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, the Archbishop of Mtskheta and Tbilisi, the Metropolitan of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II will festive liturgy at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Holy Trinity.
The Holy Apostle Andrew was the brother of St. Peter the Apostle. The Holy Apostle Andrew was the first between the Apostles who was called by Jesus Christ. Before his departure to Georgia, St. Andrew was called to Holy Mother of God and she announced the St. Andrew his mission - to preach in the land of Holy Mother of God. The Apostle Andrew entered Georgia from the side of present Adjaria and had with him the icon given by the Holy Mother of God.
Saint Andrew died with a martyr's death on the cross in the Greek city of Petra. Georgian Orthodox Church celebrates commemoration day of St. Andrew twice a year. May 12th is the day of arrival of St. Andrew in Georgia.
The Holy King Vakhtang Gorgasali ruled Georgia in V-VI centuries. Under his rule, the Georgian Orthodox Church became autocephalous.
