"The visit to Moscow was of great importance and has been useful for our country and the church”, - said the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II at Holy Trinity Cathedral after his return to homeland. According to His Holiness, special attention was paid to the issue of refugees. "We had a conversation on the issue of refugees and we hope that they will soon return home," - said the Patriarch.
According to the Patriarch, during his meeting with President Dmitry Medvedev and Patriarch Kirill, the Georgian side raised the issue of reburial of the Georgian kings - Vakhtang VI and Teimuraz II to his homeland.
"We also had a conversation about the reburial of the Georgian kings Vakhtang VI and Teimuraz II to his homeland. They are buried in Astrakhan and according to their testament they should be reburied. We asked the Russian President, Patriarch Kirill, to allow us to rebury our kings. We have submitted all necessary documents and the question now is in the process of learning" - said the Catholicos-Patriarch.
The Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II returned home on November 24 in 21:00.
At Tbilisi International Airport he was met by the clergy and parishioners. From airport Ilia II went straight to the Holy Trinity Cathedral where he met with parishioners and blessed them.
Ilia II, together with accompanying persons, went with a visit to Moscow on November 18. On November 20th, His Holiness took part in celebrations to mark the 65th anniversary of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill. During his visit, the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia met with Patriarch Kirill and took part in festive liturgy at Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Savior.
As part of the festivities, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev met with the representatives of the Orthodox Churches.
On the day of St. George, Ilia II conducted the liturgy in Georgian church of St George in Moscow.
