Today, on Samtredia St. of the Didube district was held the consecration ceremony of the church of St. George. The new church was consecrated by the Bishop of Martkopi and Gardabani Jacob, who also held the first liturgy. The opening ceremony of the church was attended by the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, the Archbishop of Mtskheta and Tbilisi, the Metropolitan of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II. Head of the Georgian Church greeted the parishioners with the opening of the church and together with other clergy held the Prayer Chapel of St. George. After finishing the church service, the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia awarded the Rector and other ministers of the church for their services. Rector of St. George Deacon Anton Khavtadze was awarded with the right to wear a second decorated the cross, the deacon Zurab Drigalashvili – with the right to wear a decorated cross, and the priest Zurab Gogitidze was ordained a deacon.

The construction of basilica style church was begun in 2003 upon the blessing from the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia. The main constructive works have been completed. Painting over the altar of the temple was made by the priest Joseph Chincharadze.
