In Natakhtari was opened the new Church of Saint Mary Gorgelikus. The church was consecrated by the Bishop of Gardabani and Martkopi, Jacob. Alongside with the members of the Holy Synod, the new church was visited by the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Archbishop of Mtskheta and Tbilisi, Metropolitan of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II.

The Church of saint Mary Gorgelikus is built on the site of ancient ruins. By the blessing from the Catholicos-Patriarchs and the efforts of the Deputy Head of the Holy Trinity Patriarchal Cathedral, Archimandrite Ilya Nasidze, the territory had been cleaned. After completing of preparatory work, at this territory was found the basilica of early Christian period and the burials of the same period. According to the experts, this historic site should be well studied. Local population also actively participated in the construction of the new church. Nowadays, in the surroundings of the church are held the new monastery complex constructional works.
