On September 27, the Orthodox Christians celebrate the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. On this day a one-day fast is appointed.

Feast of Exaltation of the Holy Cross has been celebrated since the fourth century. The mother of the Emperor Constantine the Great - Holy Empress Helen became interested in where is the Cross of the Lord, on which was crucified the Savior. She went to Jerusalem and started looking for the Holy Cross. In Jerusalem, she questioned the Jewish rabbis about the location of Mount Calvary. Empress Helena, with the help of the Patriarch of Jerusalem - Makar, found three crosses, on which were crucified the Saviour and the two thieves. But the crosses were not arranged in a proper order and therefore the question arose - which of these three crosses is the one on which Jesus Christ was crucified. Nearby was the process of burial and they decided to entrust this crosses on the deceased. A great miracle happened and the cross on which the Saviour was crucified raised the dead man.
