Visit of the Head of the Cypriot Orthodox Church to Georgia

"The Georgian people will never tolerate the partition of Georgia" - said the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Archbishop of Mtskheta and Tbilisi, the Metropolitan of Bichvinta and Tskhum- Abkhazia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II at Holy Trinity Cathedral, during the reception of the Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos II.
Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, welcomed the head of the Cypriot Orthodox Church and called a historic his visit to Georgia. Ilia II stated, that the Orthodox Churches of two countries always had a brotherly relationship.
"The fate of our peoples and churches are similar. We sadly have to note the fact that the territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia are occupied, as well as a large part of Cyprus is occupied by neighboring state. I want to say, that our people will never accept the partition of Georgia as well as the Cypriot people will never accept the division of Cyprus “- said His Holiness in his welcoming speech to the Cypriot Archbishop.
His Holiness thanked the Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos for the paternal care, which he shows to temporarily residing in the territory of Cyprus Georgians. Catholicos-Patriarch wished peace and reunification to Cyprus and the ancient Church of Cyprus.
Head of the Cypriot Church, Archbishop Chrysostomos, arrived in Tbilisi today. During the visit are planed the meetings and cultural events. Today, the leaders of two churches had the meeting in the Patriarchate of Georgia.
Archbishop Chrysostomos will stay in Georgia until 27th of September.
