As it is known to the public, with the blessing of the Catholicos-Patriarch of all Georgia, His Holiness Ilia II declared May 17 a day of Family Sanctity and Parents. On this day, at 12:00 hours, in all the churches of Georgia will be held a prayer of the Virgin, Holy Mother of God to protect our families. After, will be sanctified all churches and nearby areas. In the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, prayer will serve the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia. From 12:00 hours until the end of the day, in the cathedral will be placed the special shrines of our people - granted by the Holy Mother of God the cross of Saint Nino made from the vine and the "Holy Stone" of David Garedja, so that whole families as well as individual citizens have the opportunity to pray shrines.

Blessing of the Patriarch is to make the celebration of this day traditional. Parents should to bless their children with icons of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and the Virgin, Mother of God, each children separately, and children in this day should give the gifts to their parents and light candles in churches on behalf of their parents. His Holiness, as the spiritual father of the Georgian people, after the prayer will read a special prayer and bless all believers. The clergy will perform the same in their dioceses.

The sanctity and inviolability of the family is the basis of a strong state. For the majority of the population of our country, regardless of their religion, an assault on the sanctity of the family and the declaration of unnatural and perverted as natural is very unacceptable. Of course, it is also unacceptable to the Orthodox Church, but that does not mean that the Church is struggling with a person suffering from this sin. On the contrary, the Church cares about him and seek his help remedy. Church condemns and fights sin, its public propaganda, because this attitude strongly perturbs the Lord and causes a tremendous punishment from God, so our church is trying to protect our people against the legalization of immorality and spiritual violence.

As we know, some groups of believers and of society in general, in connection with this day intends to arrange a street procession. The Patriarchate of Georgia respectfully refers to them that the march should have only peaceful nature, since the Church is and always will be against any violence.
