Today Rulers of Six Orthodox Churches Arrived in Georgia
05/10/2010
“I would gladly learn at such school”, said His Holiness and Beatitude Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II while visiting recently opened Holy Righteous Queen Tamar’s School-Lyceum in Lotkin District, Tbilisi. The Minister of Education of Georgia also observed one-year working results at school.
There was conducted a small concert to the Patriarch at the school-yard. Classrooms are well-furnished in two-storey premise. Pupils stay during the whole day there. It is intended to establish some new traditions and invite children from Fereidan (Iran), Tao-Klarjeti (Turkey), and Hereti (Azerbaijan) to study together with Georgians here.
Nowadays, school hosts pupils from Tbilisi and about 30 children from highlands of Adjara. Each classroom is named after a Saint – that is another school tradition. The lyceum offers school curriculum in the morning and painting, icon-writing, playing musical instruments, goldsmith, knitting, sewing, etc. upon their wish during the rest of the day.
School hosted only primary pupils last year. But this year it has opened its door for 350 school pupils.
