“I will soon visit Abkhazia as the Ruler of its diocese”, stated Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia during His interview to Russian edition of BBC.

“Authority of Georgian Church covers Abkhazia and Tskhinvali. That is recognized by Russian Church either. I used to be Metropolitan of Sukhumi and Abkhazia for 11 years, thus this diocese is very close to me. I know the Abkhazian people very well”, stated the Patriarch.

The Patriarch of Georgia also talked about His trip to Gori after the war in August, 2008. His Holiness and Beatitude also talked about His meeting with Queen Elizabeth II. “That was a very warm meeting. Her Majesty told me that it is difficult to be a neighbour of a super power. Georgia deeply honours Her Majesty Queen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland”, said Ilia II.

As the Patriarch says we live in the globalization period, and small countries shall try hard to keep their identity and culture and do not allow to be swallowed up by huge states.

The Patriarch is interviewed by journalist Irakli Imnaishvili. He thanks His Holiness for giving interview in Russian. The patriarch notes that BBC does not broadcast in Georgian.
