The Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, the Archbishop of Mtskheta and Tbilisi, the Metropolitan of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II has visited the Kakheti region.

The head of the Georgian Church visited the disaster-affected people and gave them food, essential items and some cash. During his visit in Kakheti, the Holy Chapel was held in Telavi Patriarchal Cathedral. After completion of the service His Holiness blessed the congregation.

Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili attended the service and thanked the Patriarch for visiting the region affected by the disaster and for his assistance. From the town of Telavi Head of the Georgian Church, together with the President of Georgia, went to the monastery complex of Alaverdi. After praying in the temple, they turned with speech to the local population. By finishing the meeting with the local population, the Patriarch invited the President to the cellar of the monastery of Alaverdi. For several years, from the blessing of Metropolitan of Alaverdi David, the monastery is producing the winr by traditional Georgian method. Especially for the guests in an old cellar of Alaverdi monastery was opened the jar of wine "Rkatsiteli".
