At the Patriarchate of Georgia was held the session of the Holy Synod. Members of the Holy Synod are 33 bishops, archbishops and metropolitans. The session was headed by the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II.

According to the decree of the Holy Synod, it is unacceptable the involvement of clerics in the actions of political parties.

"At a meeting of the Holy Synod, it was noted that the Church has always been a unifying force in the country, and today Georgia has most in need of it. Therefore, it is categorically unacceptable the participation of clergy in the actions of political forces. Church members are people of all political persuasions, "- said the Metropolitan.

The Holy Synod also discussed the issue of Bagrati Cathedral:

"The Church welcomes the restoration of the Cathedral of Bagrati in its original form, but because there were some issues with the west wing of the cathedral restoration, it is necessary to continue the work only in accordance with the project agreed with the Patriarchate, the Ministry of Culture and UNESCO".

According to the decree of the Holy Synod, everything must be done to restore the Georgian-Abkhazian and Georgian-Ossetian relations:

"At a session of the Holy Synod it was said that nowadays the Abkhazians and Ossetians often express the view that the separation from Georgia has created a danger to their existence. We must do everything to restore the old relations between Georgians and Abkhazians, Georgians and Ossetians and more clearly realize that this union is a guarantee of their identity preservation", - is said in a statement.

The Holy Synod canonized the priest Michael Koloshvili which carried out his activities in Saingilo.
